Do you have anxiety attacks regularly? Here are some techniques to help you calm down and relax. Try it, I have anxiety attacks and these are ways for me to relax faster and get a hold off myself quicker during an anxiety attack.
- Take deep and slow breaths. Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
- Walk outside (if you can) and breath in the fresh air. If you can't go outside, just open a window and breath the fresh air in through the window. Sit down by the window.
- Keep telling yourself that it's just an anxiety attack and not a heart attack. Tell yourself it's your fear that's causing your heart to beat fast.
- Sit on the floor on your bottom with your legs straight out and apart. Bend your torso forward to stretch a little. Do this three or four times.
- Drink a glass of cold water.
- If your watching TV, turn it off or put it on a channel that's not emotionally stimulating. For instance, you probably shouldn't watch a crime show or a dramatic reality show, instead watch cartoons or HGTV.
- Get a pad and pen then write down exactly what you were doing and thinking before the attack happened. When you visit your counselor, psychologist, therapist or psychiatrist tell them what you've written down. They can help you better this way.
- Read that book you've always wanted to finish.
- Try going for a walk in a park or walking trail. Don't go walking on a busy street- too stressful.
- If you have prescription anti-anxiety pills, take ONE and sit down.
I really hope this helps anyone. I'm only doing this to help someone else better mange their anxiety issues. Always remember that you're not alone and you can search the net for very helpful anxiety support groups. Good Luck!
